The James Hutton Trail
James Hutton (1726-1797), the founder of modern geology, was one of
the most illustrious figures of the Scottish Enlightenment, a progressive
agriculturalist and also a farmer in the Scottish Borders.
In addition to the James
Hutton website, the project includes print material detailing both
the trail and a historical landscape analysis of James Hutton's farm
at Slighhouses.
The Scottish Borders James Hutton Trail promotes James Hutton and
his genius. The Borders Foundation for Rural Sustainability (BFRS),
are initiating this project in partnership with the families who currently
farm the land owned by Hutton and also the British Geological Survey
(Scottish Section).
